Because life still happens outside of writing and goal setting, once a month I will note here what I’ve been up to, just so I can say I have actually lived a life when I look back at the end of the year.
Plus here is where I will shout out any recommendations, let me know if you have any yourself.
What Have I Been Doing?
Well, it was my birthday – whoop whoop! Yup, the big 41. As I get older I appreciate the gift of turning a year older and love to celebrate. This year I spent a decadent morning catching a movie with a friend then took my dog for a long walk and finished off with a drink at the pub.
We went to the Royal Adelaide Show. I was looking for a win this year by entering a chocolate cake in the famous Adelaide Show Cookery competition. Turns out there is some pretty stiff competition in the cookery world, however I did manage to take home second place in the Golden North Ice Cream Eating Competition. Yup, even surprised myself by managing to eat nearly a litre of ice-cream in three minutes!
I’ve been using my new Upright Go. I’m a sucker for an Instagram advert and somehow the algorithm Gods knew I was slouching and needed this product. (How do they know by they way? I have so many ads pop up on Facebook and Instagram from ‘Stop Yelling at Your Kids Seminar’ to ‘Train Your Dog To Stop Running Away Products’ that I feel like someone is watching me). Anywho, the Upright Go is so far a winner. It is a small device you put on your back and it vibrates every time you start slouching. A must for most writers I imagine!
The other thing i’m doing is…..Saying no to stuff. This is really hard for me because I have had some great opportunities come up but I have to stay true to course and keep my writing blinkers on. This is a real lesson in putting my big girl pants on and realising I have to miss out on things.
I attended a book launch at Dymocks Book Store. Michelle Prak launched her book Goodbye Newsroom. Was so great to see someone I met through a writing course not that long ago at the front of the room signing books. Congratulations Michelle!
What’s coming up next month?
- School Holidays. So far there is a trip to the Flinders Ranges to visit family planned as well as getting some camping in. I’ve had requests to see Dora the Explorer, for those near Adelaide check out The Capri school holiday Scoopon deal, a family ticket for $25 and a very affordable lolly bar!
- I’m hosting another RWA Critique Matchmakers Night – hopefully it will be a success and people will finish the night with someone to swap work with.
Anyone got anything exciting coming up? Or even something not exciting coming up?
Drop me a line and let me know!
